C610A Slitter Rewinder

As Seen in Converting Magazine

Willington, Conn.-based Plassein International, a fully integrated provider of flexible packaging solutions and specialty films, prides itself on delivering high-quality products to its customers. From resins to its converting machinery, Plassein demands the same quality consistency from suppliers that it guarantees to its own customers.

With eight manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Canada, Plassein supplies extruded and converted plastic film products to market leaders in a range of end-user industries. A group of independent specialty film companies formed Plassein International in 1999. And with the addition of Rex International last year for its heavy-duty plastic shipping sacks and specialty stretch film for commercial and industrial applications, Plassein needed the right machinery to make it all come together.

An integral part in Plassein's production of film and laminated products is its slitter/rewinder system from Deacro Industries, Ltd. Because Deacro is also committed to delivering quality products, Plassein found their slitting/rewinding machine to be the perfect fit. "Our operations require slitter/rewinder equipment that enables us to cut at very narrow widths at good run speeds says Jack Shields, Plassein International's GM of operations. "Since its installation, the Deacro equipment and support staff has fulfilled our expectations".

The latest technology offered by Deacro, the cantilevered slitter/rewinder C24A, which features total process control and can handle thin-gauge to heavy -laminate film, uses a PC control system. A user-friendly, touch-screen interface lets operators achieve greater precision in slitting and rewinding. The Deacro system, equipped with Roll Lock differential air shafts and Roll Stripper, allows Plassein's operators to quickly push the finished rolls onto a roll-receiving trolley, slide on new cores and immediately restart the slitter. The display system eliminates the operators' need to manually determine knife locations with a tape measure, resulting in faster and more accurate knife setup, Shields says.
